The Atmosphere:

Once you get into the West End you're into the thick of it; the dance floor is to the immediate right, seating to the left and the bar is straight ahead. This medium sized, one room venue is the melding of two LA experiences: live music meets the dance scene.

Red velvet draped walls with track lighting give the dark room its overall contrast. Other areas of the club adorn large mirrors; there are even a couple of murals here and there. Seating is quick to fill up. A booth runs the length of the west wall along with a few wooden top tables. There's bar seating and in the corners more tables and chairs. Candles on the tables are a nice touch.

The sound is good at the West End. A fairly large stage is set in the corner, with a DJ booth just to the left of the stage and a projection screen on the wall behind it. When the club gets busy the dance floor spills out into the bar area. The lighting is also great. They have the customary disco ball, and a fog machine hidden in the wall, which really driving home the club vibe.

The styles of music vary; however, they generally have specific styles from night to night. You'll find reggae, funk and other fun upbeat live bands. The nights are split about half and half between live music and DJ's, but both types of nights have their own unique appeal at the West End.

What you should know:

The West End is a venue you can't hide from; they promote and it shows. The regulars were wearing West End t-shirts, greeting each other at the bar and sharing a general camaraderie that is pleasant and welcoming. When the place gets going, it's doesn't stop.

Parking Situation:

Parking is not a problem at the West End; there's a parking lot right across the street for $5.00. There's also parking on the street, and while it's not located in a very visible area, it's a good neighborhood.
