Geral Information:   The Crooked Bar

The Crooked Bar, known by some as the down stair Coconut Teaszer, is a small room that generates a great deal of its atmosphere from the musicians that performer there and the people they bring. Host to sometimes as many as five groups a night; the Crooked Bar packs in styles ranging from folk to hard rock.

The Atmosphere:

To get to the Crooked Bar you have to enter from the upstairs Coconut Teaszer, they won't let you in at the downstairs level unless you have the door stamp. Once inside you head left past the pool table, dance floor, a bar, down the winding staircase, past the bathrooms and into the one room that has everything you need to call it it's own club; a bar, full sound system, stage and seating.

The Crooked Bar has a way of filling up quickly, which might make it difficult to find someplace to sit. It's a tightly packed room with seating scattered about and standing room in front of the stage. A little guessing suggests that the bar might fit 50 people.

The dark atmosphere includes stage lighting and a full sounds system, but there's definitely a basement feeling that doesn't get lost here. This is a place to just cozy up and enjoy the music. Because of the small size, it's a very intimate venue, you and the musicians every time.

If it all becomes too much you can head upstairs where they have a live feed of the music so you can hear it. The upstairs bar has a greater selection, a view of Sunset and more places to sit. And there's still the Teaszer across the club where you can see other bands, play a game of pool or hang out on the patio.

If you get hungry they have some basic Mexican foods on the patio along with some tables and heat lamps, it's a comfortable place to get away from the craziness.

The music at the Crooked Bar is usually presented in an acoustic format; however, full bands do play from time to time. The styles are an eclectic mix ranging from folk to rock with a heavy emphasis on singer songwriters.

What you should know:

When you pay the cover to get into the Crooked Bar you're cover also applies to the Coconut Teaszer. If you're going to see a band, make sure you let the person at the door know. If the band gave you a discount flier, make sure you bring it, there are no exceptions. The two clubs offer a wide variety of local music that ranges from folk, eclectic, hard rock to metal.

Parking Situation:

The Crooked Bar is located in a good neighborhood that is often very busy, which means there's a lot of traffic in the area (along Sunset). The club has its own parking for about $6.00 on a normal night and you'll find other lots along Sunset, within walking distance.
