The Atmosphere:
This is a low-lit vibe, artsy; 50's-ish meets the postmodern art age. It's a treat to be in an environment like this because other venues around town with similar vibes are less inviting, yet Acoustic Playing house is friendly. Split into multiple rooms, a patio, bar area, music, dinning and a little VIP area in the back, they manage to fit all the amenities into a relatively small area.
Sitting in the bar area you can see the music, with the stage in the front window, the bar on the right side of the club separated by a large open doorway and not so stained glass on either side. There's open floor before the stage, a bench for sitting, separated by a raised level dining area where most people enjoy the music. Tucked away in the back of the dinning area, a small VIP room, very cozy, quiet with a door, making the music optional.
Out front, the patio is sectioned off; you can enjoy a drink outside, smoke if that's your thing, while peering in the window at the backs of the performers.
The Acoustic Playhouse's stage is small but the sound is LARGE. They've really taken the time to make sure that you get everything you came to see. The stage sits right in front of the window, where you can look out on Santa Monica Blvd. or people can look in on the performers.
What you should know:
The venue formerly known as the Tempest caters to the singer / songwriters playing acoustic shows, and it's a great place for it. Acoustic Playhouse is extremely artists friendly and community aware.
Parking Situation:
Parking is a little tricky, no parking lots, so just watch the street signs because this is West Hollywood and you're bound to get a ticket if you're not careful. The upside is that you don't have to pay to park!
