Los Angeles based edgy pop-rockers, High Speed Scene were signed in early 2004 by Pharrell Williams of The Neptunes to his Interscope imprint StarTrax. Singer Max Hart sat down with TLAMS to talk about their signing and tour with The Futureheads which is set to hit The Fonda Theatre on the 21st of June.

TLAMS: Was their a transition between being a signed band in LA and being an unsigned band?

Hart: The big change, of course, is having the time to get our hair do's just right. Before, we got our hair done at Supercuts. Now we have on staff hairstylists, like Mariah Carey or Cher. Naw, just kidding. All it meant is we actually had some time to learn our instruments. And catch up on the daytime soaps.

TLAMS: What was your assessment of the LA Music Scene prior to being signed?

Hart: Before us, LA was a barren sea of Fred Durst-a-likes. Now it's a barren sea of Robert Smith-a-likes. Mission Accomplished.

TLAMS: How did you get discovered by your label or A&R rep?

Hart: We rocked.

TLAMS: How has your experience touring with the Futureheads been? Any future touring plans?

Hart: The Futureheads are classy blokes. They can drink us under the table, whoop our asses in soccer, er, 'football,' and beat us at chess, all before lunch. They got brains, brawn, and a high tolerance. Our future touring plans are sorta up in the air. Let's just say we want to play anywhere, anytime.

TLAMS: Who are some of your favorite artists on the LA Scene that are still unsigned?

Hart: I like this band called Darker My Love, Bedroom Walls have been around a while and totally rock, and let's not forget our buddies in the Clean Prophets, who rule the school.

TLAMS: Were their any LA based promoters that helped you guys along the way?

Hart: Scott Sterling at the Fold has been a huge believer in us from day one and was huge in getting our career started, as he has been with so many bands. Scott is an LA music scene God.

TLAMS: Advice for local artists struggling to 'make it?'

Hart: Don't try to keep up with the hipsters, do something you feel, and you'll be just fine. Oh, and work on that hairdo
